Our Pastors

Pastor Lawrence Govan

Pastor Lawrence Govan, plwc, progressive life worship center

Pastor Lawrence is an anointed man of God who loves God with his total being. He has seen the world over and over again during his naval career from which he retired in March 1998 after 20 years of service. In 2000, he answered the call to Pastor and began to move into his God-given role. Bishop Steven W. Banks ordained him on April 19, 2002. Pastor Lawrence plays the guitar and is well known as “Guitar Man” by many.

He is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana. His mother, Willie Mae Govan, often told the story of how Pastor Lawrence was nearly born on the church pew. He has ministered in the body of Christ over the last 18 years in various roles, such as Deacon; Choir Director; Musician for local, district and state choirs; minister of music; men’s ministry head; teacher; and now as role model and Pastor. He is a graduate of ECPI College of Technology.

Pastor Dorothy Govan

Pastor Dorothy is a woman who is fully committed to the Lord and His work. She faithfully started working for God at the age of 18 and accepted her call to the ministry as a licensed evangelist at the age of 21. Pastor Dorothy has vast professional experiences working abroad and stateside in the human services field and serves the body of Christ as a Licensed Professional Group Leader, Workshop Facilitator and a Church Consultant.

She is a native of Port St. Joe, Florida. Pastor Dorothy attended the University of West Florida, obtaining a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work. In May 1996, she graduated from Virginia Union University School of Theology with a Master's of Divinity Degree. She was ordained June 14, 1998 at Living Waters Christian Fellowship by her pastor, Bishop Steven W. Banks. Pastor Govan is most commended for her highly professional and energetic style. She is an anointed vessel, fit for God’s use, for such a time as this in the Kingdom of God.

Together, Pastors Lawrence and Dorothy are five-fold, powerful ministry gifts to the body of Christ. They are visionaries after God’s own heart and add a uniqueness to the ministry that only God could create. Their genuine love for God, care and concern for others, their integrity and determination to see the Kingdom of God advanced make them a dynamic pair. They have been faithfully and happily married for the past 41 years and have a daughter, Shatovia, and a son, Shanard.
